Assalamualaikum wbt..

Wow! It has been almost 2 years since I last blogged. So many things happened for the last two years. Some things change and some other things remain the same. And as for me,  I am back to my monotonous life.

I went to Mekah some where in April 2013. I believe it is rezeki from Allah as by right I am not allowed to be there without my mahram. But syukur alhamdulillah, Allah has made it easy for me to be in His house this year. I snapped the above photo while resting in Masjidil Haram after Subuh prayer. Many friends are going to perform their hajj this year. This morning, while I was on my way to have breakfast, I met a neighbor of mine who is flying to Jeddah tomorrow. One thing keep crossing my mind after that.. I want to be there too.. I want to be in Masjidil Haram.. Ya Allah.. please let me be one of your guests soon.

I have a confession. I am an IT laggard.

The ever changing technology that moves extremely fast makes me feel that I am a laggard. While many of my friends are already updating their lifestyle with cool gadgets, I am still comfortable using my 4-year-old Nokia Express music phone, watching TV via my decade-old bulky tube TV and reading physical books. It is not that I am a technology averse person, it is just that, these cool gadgets are scaring me off. I am not denying on how these gadgets help us human to simplify our hectic life and connect us to information just at the tip of our fingertips. But, the truth is I am afraid of change and adjustment. Adopting new technology means there is some kind of adjustments needed to be done such as you have to learn how this new technology works, the cost of the adoption be it initial or continuous cost and sometime it takes time to learn how to operate these tools properly.

Being a laggard, I normally adopt to the current trend when they are no more popular among the population. As for now, I am just observing how people use, noticing some problems they encounter, benefits they gain and wait for the cost to go down. And after some time, I will normally be willing to possess those cool gadgets. And talking about that, there are actually few things from these latest technology that I would like to possess. They are as follows:-

We are 'Unified'!!

One day, my 15 years old son asked me, "Mama, do you know how internet works? Do you know how it got connected to our house? Are they using cables?". I was dumbfounded. I could not answer even one of the questions. Being a streamyx user for the past few years, I realize that I am taking things for granted. I never appreciate and concern on how things works around here. Therefore, with the intention of educating my self in the era of ever changing technology and with the co-incidents that I got our house subscribed to the Unifi package,  I would like to make an effort to understand how we are able to enjoy the high speed internet connection at home. The photos in this post were taken during the Unifi installation work. We will first attempt to understand the standard activities described in the Unifi pamphlet, then we will go the the real life installation.  So, let's start with the theoretical understanding on how the TM Point contractors are going to start the installation.

Online Reputation Management

Have you ever "Googled" your name in the search engine? What did you find? Did you see all the past remarks you made in your friends' blogs? Did you see the nostalgic photos that you saved on Flickr 5 years ago? And please do not be surprised that you may find your personal information available to the whole population of the Internet such as your education background and employment history.

It may not be a bad idea of letting people know everything about you. Well, on positive note, potential employers might find you the most suitable candidate for the current vacation in their organizations. However, the exposure of your personal information and history to public might make you be the target of dangerous people or scamming syndicates. We might also be target of revenge of some people who have some issues with us, without us realizing it. Therefore, as Internet users, we should maintain good and safe online reputation of ourselves. I came across this website which informs us on the do's and don't in the world of Internet. Let's have a quick look on what are the do's and don'ts.

IT is supposed to make our life easier, no?

I was just surfing around in the Internet on Saturday evening when I came across the following video made by Adam Technology. This video shows how the technology embedded in our daily life tends to make our life miserable.

Like it or not, I admit that my current lifestyle has been made simple and efficient via the usage of technology such as the computers, mobile phone, internet availability, e-commerce, e-banking and many more. However, there are times when I found that these technologies are rather disturbing and make my life a living hell.
